I'm Deepanraj - GEO Expert, Madurai

I help Madurai businesses show up when people ask AI tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity for recommendations, not just when they search on Google. More people are starting their search with AI instead of a search engine, and most Madurai businesses have no idea whether they even get mentioned. That’s the gap I work on closing.

Rated 4.9 out of 5 by the business owners I’ve worked with for GEO. I’d rather let that number speak than tell you myself.

Years of hands-on marketing experience, including AI search and GEO work.

GEO stands for Generative Engine Optimization. It is the practice of helping a business get mentioned, recommended, or cited by AI tools when someone asks a question related to that business. Instead of optimizing for a search engine that returns a list of links, GEO optimizes for an AI system that generates a direct answer, often a recommendation, without the person ever clicking through to a website.

This is a genuinely different game from traditional SEO. Google ranks pages based on links, keywords, and technical signals built up over years. AI tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity work differently. They pull from content that is structured clearly, directly useful, and mentioned consistently across multiple trustworthy sources, not ranking position alone. A business can rank on page one of Google and still be completely invisible when someone asks an AI tool the exact same question, because the two systems are reading fundamentally different signals.

What I Actually Do as a GEO Expert

Getting mentioned by AI tools is not one single fix, it is a combination of content, structure, and consistency working together. Here is what is actually involved.

AI Visibility Audits

Checking how your Madurai business currently appears, or does not appear, when real questions are asked across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and other AI tools. This tells us exactly where the gaps are before any work begins.

Schema and Structured Data

Adding structured data to your website so AI tools, alongside Google, can understand exactly what your business does, where it operates, and what it offers, without having to guess from unstructured text.

Authoritative Content Creation

Building genuinely useful, well researched content around topics relevant to your business, since AI tools are far more likely to cite sources that demonstrate real expertise rather than thin, generic pages.

llms.txt and AI Crawler Setup

Setting up technical files like llms.txt that guide AI crawlers on how to access and understand your website content properly, a newer but increasingly important technical layer specific to AI visibility.

Content Structuring for AI Readability

Rewriting and structuring your website content so AI tools can easily extract clear, direct answers from it. AI systems favor content that answers a question plainly in the first few lines, rather than content buried under marketing language.

Cross Platform Consistency

Making sure your business information, services, and description are consistent across your website, Google Business Profile, directories, and social profiles. AI tools cross reference multiple sources, and inconsistent information reduces the confidence they place in mentioning you.

Third Party Mentions and Citations

Helping your business get mentioned on other credible websites, directories, and platforms, since AI tools weigh how consistently and credibly your business is referenced across the wider internet, not just on your own site.

Ongoing Monitoring

Regularly checking how your business appears across different AI tools over time, since this space is changing quickly, and what works today may need adjustment in a few months.

Why GEO Matters for Madurai Businesses Specifically

Almost no Madurai business has done any real work here yet. Indian search behavior is shifting toward AI tools faster than most local business owners have noticed, and right now there is very little competition for AI visibility around Madurai based searches. This will not stay true forever. The businesses building this groundwork now will already be established and trusted by AI tools by the time this becomes the norm, the same way early SEO adopters had a lasting advantage over those who started years later.

What Makes This Different from SEO and AEO

SEO helps your website rank on Google, where a person still has to click a link to get their answer. GEO is about being the source an AI tool actually pulls from and mentions when generating its answer directly, often with no click and no website visit involved at all. These require different approaches, since Google’s ranking factors and an AI model’s reasons for citing a source are not the same thing.

AEO, Answer Engine Optimization, is closely related but more specific. It focuses on structuring content so it can be lifted almost directly as a complete answer, for things like featured snippets and direct AI responses to narrow, specific questions. GEO is the broader work of being visible and trusted across AI platforms generally. I work on both, but this page is about the broader AI visibility work. (For content specifically structured to be quoted as a direct answer, see my AEO page.)

Questions I Get Asked Most

Why does my website rank on Google but never show up when I ask ChatGPT the same question?

Google ranks pages based on links, keywords, and technical signals built up over time. AI tools work differently, they pull from content that's structured clearly, directly answers a question, and appears consistently across multiple sources, not just your own website. A business can rank number one on Google and still be invisible to AI search, because the two systems are reading completely different signals.

Is it worth optimizing for AI search if my customers still just Google me?

Right now, yes, mainly because almost nobody else is doing it yet. Indian search behavior is shifting toward AI tools faster than most local businesses have noticed. The advantage of starting early isn't that AI search dominates today, it's that the businesses building this groundwork now will already be established by the time it does.

How is GEO different from SEO?

SEO gets you ranked on Google, where someone still has to click a link. GEO gets your business mentioned directly inside an AI generated answer, often with no click at all. They require different content approaches, even though some of the groundwork overlaps.

Which AI tools should my business actually care about?

ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity currently matter most for general recommendations, though this list is likely to expand as more AI tools gain everyday usage. I focus on the platforms with real, growing usage rather than chasing every new tool that appears.

How long does GEO take to show results?

It varies more than traditional SEO right now, since this space is newer and less predictable. Some improvements, like fixing inconsistent business information, can help relatively quickly. Building genuine authority and consistent mentions takes longer, similar to how real SEO authority builds over months, not days.

Can a small Madurai business actually compete here, or is this only for big brands?

This is genuinely one of the better opportunities for a small, real local business right now. Since so few businesses of any size have done real GEO work yet, especially locally, a small business that gets the fundamentals right early has a realistic shot at being the source AI tools trust and mention, without having to out-compete a big brand's decades of accumulated SEO authority.

I Write About What Actually Gets Businesses Mentioned by AI, by What I've Tested Myself.

Most businesses have no idea whether AI tools even know they exist. I write about all of it here, what’s genuinely improving AI visibility on real projects, what I’m currently testing across ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity, and what’s just AI search hype that hasn’t actually been proven yet.

I don’t write generic “future of AI search” posts recycled from other blogs. Everything here comes from real testing, checking how businesses actually appear across AI tools, fixing what’s missing, and tracking what changes. If something didn’t work, I’ll say so, including in my own past posts.
